Welcome Message

Welcome from the Headteacher

We believe that all pupils can succeed if they work hard and receive outstanding teaching and pastoral care.

I am delighted to welcome you to the official website of The Greenwich Free School (‘GFS’).

The opportunity to empower young people, regardless of socio-economic background, to grow and be successful is at the heart of everything we do at GFS. We provide the very best all-round education in order to prepare our pupils for the modern world. We are proud of our respectful and highly disciplined community where pupils and staff feel valued; a no-excuses ethos prevails; and aspirations are unashamedly sky high. Our values of Growth, Fellowship and Scholarship permeate all school life.

The world around us is rapidly changing and this presents us with an exciting opportunity to provide an outstanding experience, which is underpinned by the latest research in the field of education. We are committed to investing in a world class professional development program for our staff, and seek innovative approaches to teaching, learning, assessment design and pastoral care. Our curriculum fosters genuine challenge for all pupils, it provides opportunities for independence of thought and intellectual creativity, whilst at its core holds a relentless focus on the basics of numeracy and literacy. This design delivers the essential backdrop for a scholastic and traditional academic curriculum, which prioritises depth of understanding over breadth.

Outstanding examination results equip pupils with the essential currency that they will need to go on and access the top universities in the country. However, delivering a well-rounded education is more important now than ever before. We see it as our responsibility to nurture a range of talents and skills through life-enriching experiences. As we continue to grow many of our sports and performing and expressive arts groups will tour, compete and perform at national standard. Within our compulsory pastoral and co-curricular programs, we also develop morally robust pupils who demonstrate resilience and empathy. These programs facilitate the advancement of complex communication skills through teamwork and a ‘never give in’ mentality - our pupils are ready to lead and positively influence the world around them.

This is a forward-thinking school that encourages innovation and values its staff and pupils, and we work very hard to shape the lives of young people and to make a difference. We are a school that refuses to accept that a pupil’s socio-economic background should be the key determining factor to their life chances. I hope you enjoy exploring our website and look forward to meeting you soon.
